Awadhesh Verma, president of the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council, who questions the imperative of new compounds through smart prepaid meters, says it is a violation of the electricity law-2003. Verma said that without any obstacle a new connection should be given at affordable rates. It is noteworthy that the applicant for the new connection now has to pay about six thousand rupes for smart meters, while the meter was installed earlier, only about 900 rupees had to be paid.
