Now students will be taught modern subjects like drone technology, green energy. The aim of the government is to make the youth technically competent so that they can get better jobs. For this, changes are made in the curriculum and new laboratories are also started. The government is emphasizing on ‘learn and earn’ model. Preparations are underway for major changes in the polytechnic education system of Uttarakhand. The Department of Technical Education has decided to include cutting-edge and applicable subjects such as drone technology, green energy, electric vehicles, robotics, 3-D printing in the curriculum with the aim of preparing the polytechnic students according to the changing requirements of the industries. Until now, traditional technical courses have been offered in polytechnics, but concrete steps are being taken to introduce new courses as per the needs of the industries. At present, 71 government polytechnic institutions are running in the state, in which three-year diploma courses are offered. Students interested in engineering are also given the opportunity of lateral entry in the second year. With the new education policy and technological development in mind, there is now a plan to adapt polytechnic education to the global level. More than 18 thousand students are studying diploma courses in 71 state polytechnic institutions in the state. The aim of the government is to make the youth tech savvy. The aim of the government is that the youth of Uttarakhand should be so technically competent that they get better job opportunities not only in the prestigious industrial institutions of the country but also in international level companies. For this, special attention is paid to industry collaboration, live projects, innovation laboratories and training programs in polytechnic institutions. According to Deshraj, Director of Technical Education, the Department of Technical Education will soon organize a meeting of the curriculum committee to implement new courses and from the next academic session these advanced courses will be started with laboratories.
