Uttarakhand: Loss of 845 crores, relief and rescue work continues with war foot in Uttarkashi

Uttarkashi, September 12 (IANS). The recent natural disaster in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand has deeply shocked the economy and development works of the district. District Magistrate Prashant Arya said that a great loss of about Rs 845 crore has so far been recorded from the disaster. This disaster severely affected roads, bridges, irrigation channels, drinking water schemes and rural structural development works. Homes were damaged in many towns, while agricultural land and horticultural areas were washed away, causing a serious crisis on the livelihood of the local population. The District Magistrate Prashant Arya has informed that all possible help will be provided to families affected, and that reconstruction work will begin on a war foot. He said: “We have awarded a relief of Rs 845 crore to the district. This figure is not final as the loss is still ongoing.” He also made clear that coordination at the central and state government is established for relief and rehabilitation to restore normal circumstances in the areas concerned as soon as possible. The loss of Rs 845 crore in Uttarkashi not only reflects the severity of the natural disaster, but also indicates social and economic crisis. Such disasters in the hilly areas become a challenge for the locals. The biggest challenge before the government now is to compensate this loss and rehabilitate the people involved. At the same time, a disaster caused a devastation in the Chamoli district. Chamoli Ankit Pandey District Supply Officer said that assistance work was quickly underway in the affected Tharali areas. The department sent adequate amount of ration and about 2000 refreshment sets to the people involved. He said: “Traffic has come to a standstill due to the breaking of roads in many areas. Rantso kits were sent to such places by the Tehsil administration. Apart from this, it is also delivered by helicopters.” Ankit Pandey further told that the ration was distributed from June to August in May and June. Currently, some areas have been cut off from road connections due to flooding in Tharali. Where the roads are open, the ration was delivered from September, but there are challenges to deliver ration on the blocks of blocked roads.
