Food comes from abroad to India. 1. Tomato tomato originated in South America. In the 16th century, Portuguese came to India with tomatoes. 2. Sweet sweet potato originated in Middle America. Soetetatos in India arrived in the 17th century. 3. Beans General Beans (Phaselas vulgaris), Scarlet Runner Beans (P. Coxinus) and Lima Beans (P. lunatus) first started in the US, from where it spread all over the world. 4. Mecca, one of the oldest crops in America, started growing Mecca by Olmec and Maya in Mexico about 10,000 years ago. 5. Papaya At least 4000 years ago, people of the Maya civilization first began to grow from papaya. It was brought to India in the 16th century. 6. It is believed that peanuts were first grown in ancient Bolivia. It has reached India via China. 7. Pineapple Pineapple plant is a native of southern Brazil and Paraguay. In 1548, Portuguese came to India with pineapple. 8. It is believed that potato grew it on a large scale 1,800 years ago. Portuguese brought it to India in the 17th century. 9.
