In Petarwar police station area of Bokaro district, villagers drove the tractors illegally loading sand. The incident took place on the banks of the Damodar river, where hundreds of tractors were illegally lifting of sand. Angry villagers seized keys of dozens of tractors, although some tractor drivers managed to escape.
Due to illegal sand lifting from Damodar river, a serious water problem arose in the area. The water source in Intake Well located in Asana Pani area began to dry, which disrupted water supply in many panchayats. The patience of the villagers facing this problem for a long time broke and they opened a front against illegal mining.
The police of Kathara OP police station and Petarwar police station reached the spot as soon as the villagers received information about the tractors. However, by then most of the tractor drivers had fled. The villagers alleged that illegal mining is continuing indiscriminately due to the negligence of the administration.
Jal Sahia Gulistan Kamal of Kathara Panchayat said that due to illegal mining, the water crisis in the area is being deepened. He demanded from the administration that it should be strictly banned so that water supply is not interrupted. Taking the matter seriously, the police have assured to investigate. Petarwar police station in -charge Raju Kumar Munda and Kathara OP police station in -charge Rajesh Prajapati said that strict action will be taken against the illegal mining.
