Jakarta – Minister of Transmigration, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara emphasized that the progress of the development does not have to eliminate society but empower society. He also gave the example of the Xujiachong village, which is clear evidence of the success of the development of a transmigration area aimed at empowering the community. He expressed this during a visit to Xujiachong Village, China, today. “Xujiachong Village is proof that development that supports the community can create sustainable prosperity. In principle, the development should not eliminate the community, but it must empower. This is what we will continue to encourage in the Indonesian transmigration area,” IFTITAH said on Monday (13/10/2025). Browse to continue with the content Xujiachong Village was initially formed, along with the development of large infrastructure in the form of a power plant. Although there was no resistance to the community, the residents were initially full of concern about their future. This is one of the common challenges for transmigrants. “That’s why we learned from here how when development occurs, about 1.3 million people should be resettled. And things are going very well. We have visited several areas, transmigration villages. I also spoke to village heads, and they said that they really supported this government program because this development would benefit all the Chinese people,” he said. The Chinese government constantly offers help and various forms of incentives, especially to create jobs and improve the skills of the citizens. This ongoing help is an important basis for the Xujiachong community to adapt and develop. After 15 years, the Chinese government’s help produced real results. The revenue of the village community has now increased to eight times compared to when they first established. Now Xujiachong Village has reached a state of no poverty and no unemployment, all its residents have work and play an active role in the village economy. Economic activities in Xujiachong not only focus on the agricultural, plantation and fisheries sectors, but have also expanded to the field of domestic industrialization. Local craft products have even entered the international market, including being exported to the United States via global platforms such as Amazon. Furthermore, IFTITAH emphasized that a development model based on the empowerment of the community as in Xujiachong would be considered for implementation in Indonesian transmigration areas, including Papua and brake. “This success was born of a combination of the extraordinary determination of the community and continuous assistance of the government. With the view of these achievements, in the future the Ministry of Transmigration Plans to develop a village sister concept between Xujiachong village and several other transmigration dorp to make the exchange of knowledge and technology.
