Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian MPR Lestari Moerdijat said that different attempts to encourage the application of gender equality in a number of fields should be consistent. It aims to realize a better daily life in the future. “Although a number of parties in our daily lives try to fight for gender equality, but in practice it is not fully realized. It takes a strong consistency and dedication to realize one of Ra Kartini’s ideals,” Lestari Moerdijat said in a statement Monday (4/14/2025). Lestari said the data from the International Labor Organization (ILO) revealed that the average income per hour of workers in Indonesia has increased. But the wage gap between men and women is still very far. Browse to continue with the content ILO notes mention that the average wage of male workers in 2021 RP is 16,815 per hour, while female workers of RP amounts to 16,576 per hour. In 2022, the average female wage dropped dramatically to RP14,784 per hour. On the other hand, the average wage of male workers reach RP16,939 per hour. Meanwhile, in 2023, the average male wage rose again to RP17,074 per hour, while the average female wage dropped to 14,779 per hour. “The void in the amount of wages between men and women is part of the unrealization of gender equality that Ra Kartini fought hundreds of years ago,” he said. Therefore, he requested that policymakers and the public understand the values of emancipation invested by Ra Kartini. Because RA Carthini has values to fight for women’s rights to get the same rights in education, work and politics. “Related parties can do measurable evaluations of a number of policies that do not prioritize gender equality,” he explained. Rerie, who is also a member of the House of Representatives Commission X of the Central Java District II, believes that the gap created reflects that when women choose to work, they do not gain the same access to financial opportunities and awards. Lestari also encouraged the practice of wage gaps between men and women to end immediately. Because when workers feel quite valued and treated, they tend to be more motivated and productive. “So, by ending the wage gap between men and women, morale and productivity as a whole can increase,” he concluded.
