Wamensos: Human schools can be a new hope for those less competent
Jakarta – Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Wamensos) Agus Jabo Priyono emphasized the government’s commitment to accelerating poverty alleviation. One of the main focus is to turn the paradigm of the recipients of social assistance (Banso’s) into empowered communities by the People’s School (SRC), which was directly started by President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, this program not only focuses on providing access to education, but is a real step in building independence for poor and vulnerable communities. “This People’s School can be a new hope for our underprivileged siblings,” he said in a written statement on Monday (13/10/2025). Agus Jabo added that there are currently 165 people’s schools in different regions of Indonesia. A total of 35 schools are in Sumatra, 69 in Java, 7 in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, 13 in Kalimantan, 28 in Sulawesi, 7 in Maluku and 6 in Papua. These schools mostly use existing buildings, but are still designed with standards and careful planning. “Although intended for underprivileged students, the facilities are still better,” he added. These schools accommodate 15,895 Children of Deciles 1-4 DTSEN with the support of 2.407 teachers and 4.442 teaching staff. The implementation of this program involves cooperation between ministries and institutions, such as the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of PUPR, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and local governments. This cooperation is expected to accelerate the expansion of people’s schools so that more children from poor and vulnerable families can gain access to quality education.
