WAQF amendment bill gets the approval of the president, the name of the law has also changed
New -Delhi, April 6 (IANS). The WAQF (amendment) bill, which was approved in the budget session from both houses of parliament, received the approval of President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday. With the issue of Gazette Notice in this regard, the name of the WAQF Act, 1995 was also changed to United WAQF management, employment, efficiency and development (expectation), 1995. Despite the opposition of opposition parties and several Muslim organizations, the Lok Sabha approved it in the early hours of April 3 and approved the Rajya Sabha. There were 288 votes in the lure Sabha in support of it and 232 votes in protest, while 128 votes were cast in his favor and 95 votes in protest. The main purpose of the new WAQF Act is to prevent abuse, prejudice and excretion of WAQF properties. The government says this law is not anti -muslim, but its purpose is to ensure the correct management and conservation of WAQF properties. After the signature of President Murmu, this law has now come into effect throughout the country, which will give a new direction to the safety and proper use of WAQF properties. With the implementation of this Act, the administration of WAQF properties is expected to improve. Explain that the bill was allowed to appeal in the Supreme Court against the involvement of non-Muslim members and women in the WAQF council, digitalization of WAQF properties, the right to investigate the collector and the decision of the tribunal. Its purpose is described as transparency and effective management. The Muslim community and the opposition believe that it is an attack on religious autonomy. The appointment of non-Muslims is considered intervention. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Minority Affairs, and Interior Minister Amit Shah said in both homes that this bill will not cause damage to the Muslim community, but that the crores of poor Muslim women and children will benefit. When he rejected the protests about providing at least two non-Muslim members in the state’s WAQF board, he said that the number of non-Muslim members in the 11 member board would not exceed three. So the majority will be of Muslims. The first WAQF (amendment) Bill, 2024, was sent to the joint parliamentary committee for the opposition’s objection after it was established in the Lok Sabha. The WAQF (amendment) Bill, 2025, was introduced and approved in Parliament, with the committee recommendations. One of the biggest changes was that this law would not apply to before effect. -Ians PSM/Ekd shares this story -tags
