North Korea again expressed dedication to Russia to defense treaty, 'strategic guarantee' said bilateral cooperation

Sol, June 19 (IANS). North Korea repeated its firm commitment to the mutual defense treaty with Russia on Thursday. The statement comes between the two countries amid growing military cooperation when celebrating the first anniversary of this treaty. The detailed strategic partnership treaty was signed on June 19, 2024, between North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. It states that if there is an armed attack on one of the two, the other country will provide military assistance of “without delay”. On the commemoration of the treaty, the Foreign Ministry official in North Korea, associated with Russian matters, said in a statement that North Korea’s commitment to strengthen friendly relations with Russia has been “unchanged”. The ministry described the treaty as a ‘important political event’ and a ‘strategic guarantee’ for the current and future relationship between the two countries. North Korea also mentioned that it had deployed soldiers in the Koursk region in Russia, saying that this collaboration would be deeper in the future. According to South Korean intelligence agencies, between October 2023 and February 2024, North Korea sent about 14,000 soldiers to fight for Russia in Ukraine War. Earlier this week, the Russian media said that North Korea will send about six thousand military manufacturing staff and the removal of landmine to the war area Kursk. Northern Korea’s official newspaper Rodong Sinmun prominently published the commemoration of the Treaty and described it as a ‘beginning of a new chapter’ in friendship with Russia. The article states that this is the result of the ‘extraordinary leadership ability’ of the two leaders.
