This day itself is celebrated as Chhoti Diwali. 2. Because of the name itself, because of the killing of Narakasura, the fourteenth day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month called ‘Nark Chaturdashi’. 3. Liberation of 16,000 maidens: Narakasura captured 16,000 princesses, whom Krishna freed by killing him. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil. 4. Worship of Yamraj: On this day, the god of death, Yamraj is also specially worshiped and a lamp in his name i.e. Yam Deepak is lit. 5. The fear of untimely death is removed. It is believed that by worshiping Yamraj and donating a lamp, a person does not face the fear of untimely death and gets freedom from the sufferings of hell. 6. Victory of light over darkness: Like Diwali, this festival also symbolizes the victory of good and light over evil and darkness. 7. Freedom from sins: According to some beliefs, by applying oil and bathing in the morning and offering tarpan to Yamraj on this day, a person gets freedom from sins. 8. Roop Chaudas It is also called ‘Roop Chaudas’ because after the death of Narakasura the captive women were freed from fear and their faces blossomed and spread beauty.
