Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Guwahati that Zubin Garg’s family and the people of Assam have the right to know what happened to him (Zubin) in Singapore. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and MP from Rae Bareli said, “It is the duty of the Assam government to conduct a transparent inquiry into the death of Zubin Garg and tell his family what really happened in Singapore.” Zubin Garg died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore. Zubin was cremated with state honors near Guwahati on September 23. The Assam government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cause of his death. Rahul Gandhi said: “I spoke to the family and they only said one thing – we lost our Zubin and we just want the truth to come out. We, who love Zubin, and the people of Assam who listen to the singer, want to know what happened because they want this case to be revealed.” The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said it was very sad for him to come to Assam under these circumstances. Gandhi said: “I told the family that I would like to come to a better and happier environment.” The Congress leader said that when he was 17 years old, he went to Sikkim to take a mountaineering course and “every day when we went for training, we had Mount Kanchenjunga in front of us and what I liked best about that mountain was that it was upright, steadfast and beautiful.” Rahul Gandhi said, “Today when I came here, Gaurav (Gogoi) said that ‘Zubin ji said that he is Kanchenjunga’ and I immediately understood it because he has the qualities of that mountain.” Garg acted and directed the 2019 Assamese film ‘Kanchenjunga’, which is the story of a young man fighting the corrupt system. His dialogue in the film “I am Kanchenjunga” became very popular. Rahul Gandhi said he told Garg’s father that “his intelligence and cooperation forged Zubin, who gave a voice to this wonderful state, and we all thank him and his entire family for his contribution not only to Assam but to the entire country.” The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said, “I have told the family that I and the Congress Party are ready to support them in every way. If we can do anything, we will be happy to help.” Asked if the singer should receive the Bharat Ratna, Rahul Gandhi said, “I don’t want to deviate from the topic or divert the discussion by telling people that we like Zubin Garg.” Rahul Gandhi said, “We want to honor him, but first we want transparency and justice.” About the Author Rakesh Ranjan Kumar Rakesh Ranjan Kumar has over 10 years of experience in digital journalism.
