During a religious meeting in Sangam Vihar in Delhi, the dispute over playing speakers increased so much that a police officer was attacked by a crowd. In this attack, Assistant Subinspector (ASI) wrist was broken and their uniforms were also broken down. The incident happened on the night of June 4 when Asi was on emergency and tried to stop the use of speakers at the meeting. According to police officers, the entire case of the incident was received to ASI at about 23:30 on June 4, in which a complaint was made late at night of speakers at a religious meeting near Sangam Vihar’s street 1, a religious meeting near Char Chowk. When police officers reached the place, there were about 200 people there. The ASI informed the organizers that the problem of playing speakers was scheduled until 10pm and that the time was now enough. He said speakers should be closed. But the organizers rejected the request, which led to a debate between the two parties. Before long, the debate became in a jerkus and a group of people present attacked the police officer. As the situation deteriorated, the ASI tried to call 112, but could not be contacted for any technical reason. He immediately notified his high officials. Then, when Asi continued to seize speakers and amplifiers, about 20-25 people surrounded them and started beating. During this time, a heavy amplifier hit his hand, which broke his wrist. With this, the attackers tore his police uniform and fled from the place. The injured ASI was hospitalized and rushed to the hospital immediately, where the medical investigation confirmed his wrist breach. Police have registered a case against the attack and CCTV footage, mobile videos and locals to identify the attackers. The police response and investigation have continued. The investigative team was formed in the light of the seriousness of the case. The attackers are identified on the basis of video material and witnesses found during the investigation. Police said they would not save criminals under any circumstances and that they would arrest as soon as possible. The police officer said: “The attack on police employees will not be tolerated at all. It is our primary duty to maintain law and order and strict steps will be undertaken against anyone who violates it.” Increasing incidents of attacks on policemen in Delhi This is not the first incident when policemen were attacked in Delhi. In April, a policeman Prempal was also attacked by the attackers with a knife in Adarsh Nagar. After the incident, he was admitted to Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh in critical condition. In that case, police also formed a team to search for the accused and searched CCTV footage.
