Panic at Florida State University: Active Shooter asks for evacuation, 4 in the hospital; FBI officials on campus | Today news
A shooting Thursday at Florida State University campus sent an unknown number of people to a nearby hospital, a spokesman for the medical center said. According to reports, a total of four people have been admitted to hospital so far. Students at the FSU advised one to take shelter. Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare received and treated people through the shooting, said Sarah Cannon, a hospital spokeswoman. Ambulances, fire trucks and patrol vehicles from multiple law enforcement agencies rushed to campus on Thursday after the university issued an active shooting warning near the student association. Hundreds of students streamed away from the direction of the Student Association. Students were glued to their phones, some visibly emotional. Junior Joshua Sirmans, 20, was in the university’s main library when he said alarms began to warn about an active shooter. Sirmans said law enforcement officers escorted him and other students from the library with their hands over their heads. FBI officials are on the scene, a spokeswoman said. Students and faculties were instructed to seek shelter and await further instructions. “Close and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take extra protection measures,” the warning reads.
