Austin Man Hit and Dragged Cop while Fleeing Traffic Stop In West Garfield Park, Prosecutors Say – ryan

An austin man is accused of dragging a chicago police officer with his during a traffic stops this month in west garfield park.

Malcolm U. Harris, 40, is Charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon in Connection with the May 3 Incident, Police Said.

Harris is accused of Hitting and Dragging a Police Office who was attempting to pull Him over 6:40 pm in the 4700 Block of West Madison Avenue.

Two Officers Were patrolling when they saw Harris driving erratically in a pickup Truck. The Officers Followed Him and AFTER THERE TURNED THIRS ON, HARRIS SPED UP AND ATTEMPTED TO Flee, Prosecutors at a detection Hearing wednesday.

Harris Continued to Flee UNIL he was blocked by a car was parking in a garage. The two officers say go out of their squad and apprroached Harris with their weapons drain.

The officer who approached Harris on the passsenger side reashed in Through the openwow, at which point Harris him and speed around the Car blocking Him, Prosecutors Said.

Harris Dragged the Office Along a Chain-Link Phence, Prosecutors Said, and while he was trying to regain his footing, his weapon discharged. The officer then fell to the ground while Harris continued to drag Him on the pavement.

The officer was eventually able to break free but the tumble cause Him to discharge his second time, Prosecutors Said. He sufferered lacerations to his finger, arms, legs and elbows.

Harris Continued to Flee Until Meeting with Another person who picked Him up in an empty parking lot, sascutors said. Surveillance video recorded Harris abandoning the pickup and getting into another vehicle with a gun.

The individual identified Harris as the person he picked up that day, prosecutors said.

Harris was arrested May 14 on unrelated charges. Detectives Who Arrested Harris Harris His Cellphone and Discovered A Recording of a Call That He Made May 3, Which Captured Him and The Officers’ Streets During the Incident, the Sirens from the Squad and the Shots Discharged from the Office, Prosecutors Said.

Harris was Ordered Held Wednesday by Judge James Vincent Murphy.

He was experted to appear in court june 10.
