Trending Cobalt is one of the most important metals in the era of clean energy. The demand in electric vehicles and batteries is increasing quickly. The demand for cobalt is increasing worldwide, while production is only focused with a few countries. The Democratic Republic of Congo alone produces 74% of the world’s cobalt and has a large 60 million tonnes reserves. Currently, cobalt production in the Congo is increasing each year with a rate of 10.1%. Russia and Canada remain in the back of the production, but together they offer about 5% of the world’s cobalts. Australia and Cuba’s production has decreased, but Australia still has a large cobal reserves of 17 million tonnes. China itself does very little cobalt mining, but the launching ability and control over the supply chain make it strategically important. Cobalt production decreases in the Philippines, Madagascar and New -Caledonia. Jambia and South Africa, which used to be important, can now contribute less than 1% to global cobalt production. In the coming times, the role of cobalt will continue to increase, the world must pay attention to supply as well as moral mining and environmental balance.
