In a major step regarding the violence in Ladakh, the central government has constituted a judicial commission to investigate this matter. Now the Judicial Commission will investigate this violence. This judicial inquiry will be conducted under the guidance of a retired Supreme Court judge. The Ministry of the Interior issued an important order in this regard on Friday. The three-member judicial commission headed by retired Supreme Court judge BS Chauhan will do. According to the notification issued by the Union Home Ministry, the inquiry commission headed by retired Supreme Court Justice BS Chauhan is to probe the circumstances that led to the ‘deterioration of law and order situation, police action and consequent unfortunate death of four people’. Retired District and Sessions Judge Mohan Singh Parihar will act as the judicial secretary, while IAS officer Tushar Anand will be the administrative secretary of the inquiry commission. The announcement of the inquiry commission comes as an attempt to resume talks with the agitating parties – Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), which suspended talks with the high-level committee of the home ministry after the violence. In its statement, the Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to continued dialogue. Sonam Wangchuk was arrested for inciting violence in Ladakh. Sonam Wangchuk was detained on September 26 under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). The incident took place two days after violent protests demanding statehood and sixth schedule status to the Union Territory of Ladakh. Four people died in this protest and 90 people were injured. The government accused Wangchuk of inciting violence. Rasuka empowers the Center and states to detain individuals to prevent them from committing acts ‘prejudicing the security of the country’. The maximum period of detention is 12 months. However, it can be canceled even earlier. Wangchuk is being held in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
