Trending Nur Jahan, the most influential queen of the Mughal period! Nur Jahan was born in 1577 AD in Kandahar (Afghanistan). His father Mirza Giaz Baig was an Iranian scholar who reached a high position in the Mughal Court. The parents named Nur Jahan as Meher-Un-niche. Meher-Un-niche was 17 years old when he married Sher Afghan Khan, who worked in the service of the Mughal rulers. In 1605, the only daughter of Meher-Un-Nnisa and Sher Afghan Khan was born, known as Ladli Begum. Sher Afghan Khan died in 1607. Some people also say that Yahangir killed the Lion Afghan. However, there was no confirmation of this. After the death of Sher Afghan Khan, the widow Meher-un-niche was brought to Delhi, after which he was sent to the king’s royal harem. Here Akbar’s widow queen Rukaiybegam kept her in her service. It is said that Jahangir first saw Meher-Un-niche in Mena Bazaar at the Feast of Nauroz. Jahangir, fascinated by her beauty, began to love her. Some historians also believe that Jahangir already wanted to marry Meher-un-niche, but that cannot happen because of Akbar’s lack of consent. After the death of Akbar, Jahangir’s path was cleaned. When Meher-Un-niche was 34 years old in 1611, she married Jahangir. After marriage, he got the name ‘nur Jahan’ which means ‘light of the world’. Nur Jahan took over the responsibilities of management in place of Jahangir several times. Not only was she a queen, she also contributed a lot to political decisions.
