Woman Refuses to Walk Her Partner’s Dog Before Work — Here’s Why – ryan

A woman feels like her partner is barking up the wrong tree when it comes to splitting dog-walking duties for her significant other’s pet.

She explained on community forum Mumsnet why she’s refusing to “take responsibility” for walking her partner’s dog before they both start work on certain days — and now she’s wondering if she’s being unreasonable.

“Until now, (she) and I have had an agreement where she walks the dog first thing in the morning Monday through Thursday and I do it Friday through Sunday,” the woman, who goes by ItalianPrincess on the forum, wrote on Sunday, April 13. “(She) has now said that she will be unable to walk the dog in the mornings due to starting her new job.”

The woman then noted that her partner doesn’t start work until 9 a.m. and has a 20-minute commute to her new place of employment, while the original poster (OP) also starts work at 9 a.m. and has a one-hour commute.

“She is going into work tomorrow for a training course, which starts at 9:15,” the OP said. “She has asked me if I can walk the dog in the morning, but I’ve said no. I don’t want to set a precedent where she expects me to walk the dog every morning of the week just because she now has to work at 9 a.m., which I’ve had to do the whole time.”

“Her response to my refusal was, ‘Well, I don’t know how he’s going to get walked then because I have to be at work for 9:15,’ ” she recalled. “She has 40 minutes less of a commute than I do, and people all over the world manage to walk their dog before starting work in the morning.”

Rethinking her decision to refuse to walk her partner’s dog, she asked the forum if she’s being unreasonable to want her partner to take responsibility.

“Hire a dog walker if it’s that much of a big deal,” one person suggested.

Another Mumsnet user expressed confusion, replying, “I really don’t understand why she can’t get up earlier and walk the dog on those four days before going to work like almost every other dog owner does.”

A third reader felt sympathy for the pet: “The poor dog. You both sound immature. You need to discuss this and come up with a solution.”
