Colombo, October 18 (IANS). Colombo’s R Premadasa Cricket Stadium is turning out to be a very disappointing venue for the Women’s World Cup 2025. The match played in this stadium between New Zealand and Pakistan on Saturday was washed out due to rain. It was the fourth match of the World Cup tournament, which was washed out due to rain. After the match between New Zealand and Pakistan was canceled due to rain, the places of two teams in the semi-finals of the World Cup have been confirmed. South Africa and Australia advanced to the semi-finals. Looking at the current situation, New Zealand’s chances of reaching the semi-finals are very less. New Zealand is fifth in the standings with four points from five matches. On the other hand, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals are almost over. Pakistan has only 2 points from two rain-hit matches and the team is at the bottom of the table. Kiwi team captain Sophie Devine spoke about the New Zealand-Pakistan match, bearing in mind the rain, winning the toss and inviting Pakistan to bat first. Pakistan openers Muniba Ali and Omaima Sohail started the team slowly. Both of them made a partnership of 30 runs for the first wicket. In the seventh over, Lee Tahuhu caught Omama in front of the wickets. Muniba was out in the next over off the bowling of Jess Kerr. Muniba scored 22 runs in 26 balls with the help of four fours. Sidra Amin and Aliya Riaz went on the scoreboard and at the end of the showdown, Pakistan’s score was 39/2. After this it started to rain. As a result, the game had to be stopped for one hour and 36 minutes. After this the match was made of 46 overs per team. Pakistan continued its innings with a score of 52/3 in 12.2 overs. Pakistan’s innings score was 92/5 in 25 overs. The match was again stopped due to rain and the overs were decided at 36-36. But, the rain started again and after a long wait the match was abandoned.
