World Bamboo Day: Bamboo contributes to human life and environment

New -Delhi, September 17, 2025 (IANS). Bamboo was an integral part of human life. This is called ‘woodwood’. From home building to decoration, crafts, medicine and environmental protection, bamboo is used in countless areas. The ‘World Bamboo Day’ is celebrated every year on September 18 to explain the importance of bamboo and its versatile use. Bamboo Gramini is a total (total) plant found naturally in tropical and subtropical regions. It survives even in strange circumstances and has a wonderful ability of rebirth to disasters. Bamboo species range from dwarf (a few inches) to 30 meters long. Bamboo is found in all regions except Kashmir in India, and its 136 species exist in the country. India is the second largest bamboo producing country in the world, where 1.35 million tonnes of bamboo is produced each year. Northeast India produces 65 percent of the country and 20 percent of the bamboo worldwide. Bamboo has been used in human civilization since ancient times. It not only meets domestic and industrial needs, but is also effective in dealing with climate change. Bamboo absorbs 33 percent more carbon dioxide than other plants and is useful in soil management. The leaves make natural manure, which is beneficial to other crops. Bamboo cultivation is financially beneficial to farmers, as its maintenance is easy and the income is extended. Bamboo makes furniture, carpet, incense sticks, paper and craft items, which are high demand in the market. It is an excellent option of plastic and is also used in Ayurvedic medicine and pickles. Worldwide, 2.5 billion people depend on bamboo, and international trade is $ 2.5 million. In India, 16 percent of the bamboo is used for rods in incense sticks, while the remaining becomes useless. The cost of bamboo is Rs 4,000-5,000 per metric tons, but it reaches Rs 25,000-40,000 for round sticks. The Government of India is committed to promoting bamboo cultivation. The ‘National Bamboo Mission’, which started in 2006, was reorganized in 2018. This mission empowered bamboo cultivation economically and environments. -Ians scah/DSC shares this story tags
