New Delhi, October 19 (IANS). ‘World Osteoporosis Day’ is celebrated every year on 20 October. The purpose of this day is to make people aware of bone health. Nowadays, most people struggle with this problem. The problem of osteoporosis is more common especially in women after the age of 50. If we understand osteoporosis in common language, it is a condition in which bones become weak, their density decreases and fractures can occur even with the slightest injury or pressure. Often people do not know about it until the bone is broken, which is why it is also called a silent disease. According to doctors, this disease is related to aging, hormonal changes and a deficiency of calcium or vitamin D. Usually fractures of the hip, wrist or spine are the initial signs of this disease. Walking bent over, frequent pain or delayed recovery after an injury can be its symptoms. According to Ayurveda, osteoporosis is directly related to the imbalance of Vata dosha. When Vata dosha increases, the strength of the body begins to decrease and the density of bones begins to decrease. Interestingly, this understanding also fits with modern science, because science also says that age and hormonal changes affect the bones. Many methods have been suggested in Ayurveda to prevent and cure this disease. First comes chemotherapy, that is, to strengthen the body from the inside. It slows down age-related deterioration. The second one is oil massage. Massaging with Mahanarayan oil, Dashmool oil or Chandanabala Lakshadweep oil deeply nourishes the bones and joints. The third solution is herbal medicines, such as Laksha Guggulu, Mahayogaraj Guggulu, Pravala Pishti and Mukta Shukti Bhasma. This traditional medicine helps to increase the strength of bones. Besides, there is also an emphasis on food and lifestyle. Ayurveda says that foods like horse gram, ginger, garlic, gourd and gourd strengthen bones. Fruits like pomegranate, mango and grapes maintain nutrition in the body. –IANS PIM/ABM
