The Congo announces a new outbreak of the 'Ebola' virus
The Democratic Republic of Congo announced a new outbreak of the virus Ebola virus on Thursday after confirming an injury in the Southern Province Kasay, pointing out that the authorities have monitored 28 cases of suspects and 15 deaths so far. The Ministry of Health said in a statement that this outbreak is the sixteenth of the Ebola virus in the country in the middle of the African continent. The ministry added that it was confirmed that a pregnant woman (34 years) was injured by the virus and was taken to hospital in August after symptoms appeared, including high temperature and continuous vomiting. Ebola “Zaire” and the World Health Organization website reported that the Ebola virus from the “Zaire” breed affected the Bulabi and Muwaika regions in the Casai County, as symptoms of fever, vomiting, diarrhea and bleeding appeared in cases. Authorities sent a national team for the rapid response, with the support of the World Health Organization experts, to improve the efforts of supervision, treatment and prevention in health facilities and influence societies. Dr. Mohamed Al -janabi, regional director of the World Health Organization of Africa, said the organization works quickly to stop the spread of the Ebola virus and protect societies, in collaboration with the health authorities. He added that the large number of cases is contained with the continued transfer of the infection, and emphasizes that the response teams continue to find matters and give care to ensure the protection of everyone. The World Health Organization noted that the last outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Congo was recorded in the province of Ecator in 2022 and was controlled within less than three months. Casai boycotted an outbreak of the disease in 2007 and 2008, while the total outbreaks in the country were 15 since the discovery of the virus in 1976.
