In a strong response to terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, India on Wednesday decided to immediately close the Attari’s border, and suspend the Indus treaty until Pakistan decreases believably and irrevocably its support for borderlovers. The decision was made at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee for Safety (CCS) held during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home. The CCS, which was informed in detail about the terror attack on April 22, condemned the attack in the strongest conditions and expressed its deepest condolences to the victims’ families and hoped for the early recovery of the injured. Cabinet Cabinet Committee for Safety has decided 1) The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held immediately with a view, until Pakistan rejects its support for cross-border terrorism credibly and irrevocably. 2) The integrated check post Attari will be closed immediately. Those who crossed with valid approval can return through the route before 01 May 2025. Any SIVER visas issued to Pakistani citizens in the past are considered canceled. Any Pakistani citizen currently in India under Sves Visa has 48 hours to leave India. 4) The defense/military, naval and air advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New -Delhi are declared a persona non grata. They have a week to leave India. India will withdraw its own defense/fleet/air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the various high commissions are considered void. Five support staff of the service advisors will also be withdrawn from both high commissions. 6) The overall strength of the high commissions will be brought from the current 55 to 30 through further reduction, which must be executed by 01 May 2025. The CCS reviewed the overall security situation and ordered all powers to maintain high vigilance. It decided that the offenders of the attack would be brought before justice and that their sponsors were taken into account. As with the recent extradition of Tahwaw Rana, India will be relentless in pursuing those who have committed terrorist acts, or conspired to make this possible.
