Jakarta – Coordination of Minister of Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) said the rise in grain prices was welcomed by the public. He said that this policy is exclusively for the well -being of farmers in Indonesia. Based on compass research and development released on Friday (10/10/2025), 77% of the public is of the opinion that the decision to raise grain prices can improve the well -being of the farmers. This policy refers to presidential instruction number 6 of 2025 regarding domestic grain/rice procurement and management and distribution of the government’s rice reserves. Through coordination between ministries and institutions, the price of grain on IDR 6 500 per kilogram is determined with a domestic target for acquiring 3 million tonnes. Based on the same survey, it was said that 83% of the public was the SPHP rice spread by the government as affordable and of high quality, while 61.5% of the public said they were satisfied with the national food security policy. Zulhas also previously said that the performance of rice production in Indonesia is currently increasing. This year, domestic rice supplies have recorded a surplus of up to 4 million. Zulhas initially explained that there were a number of tasks that Prabowo gave him when he was first appointed coordinating minister of food. “First, the country must be strong, as we could build aircraft earlier, build Krakatau steel. The country must be strong, so Danantara is born. Danantara will focus on downstream so that our country is strong, capable of value industries,” Zulhas says. Zulhas explained that Prabowo also focuses on strengthening the food production sector in Indonesia. In 2024, Indonesia will import 3.28 million tonnes of rice. According to Zulhas, improvements in the irrigation sector and the supply of fertilizer had a significant impact on rice production in Indonesia. This year, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the national rice supply recorded a surplus of up to 4 million. “With a few simple (improvements) we said this year, BPS said that we will have a rice surplus of between 3.5 to 4 million tonnes this year.
