Bali May Soon Ask Tourists to Show Bank Statements Before Entry | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G
Bali is considering stricter entry requirements for foreign tourists as officials respond to rising pressure from overtourism. The Indonesian island recorded around 16.4 million visitors in 2024, boosting the economy but worsening traffic congestion, waste management issues and illegal construction. Authorities say visa overstays, illegal work and disrespect for local customs are growing concerns. Under proposals being discussed, travellers may be asked to show three months of bank statements and provide details of their itinerary and length of stay. Supporters say similar rules exist elsewhere, while critics question Bali’s legal authority, as immigration policy is controlled by Indonesia’s national government. No start date has been confirmed yet.
