Cricket comes to a halt in Bangladesh as players’ boycott forces BCB to initiate action against director – Firstpost
An embattled Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was forced to issue a show-cause notice to its director, M Nazmul Islam, on Thursday (15 January) after players threatened a complete boycott if action is not taken against the administrator. Nazmul Islam had criticised the national cricketers’ performance on Wednesday and mentioned that there would be no compensation for them if Bangladesh did not participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Unhappy with Nazmul Islam’s criticism, the players issued a complete boycott threat through Mohammad Mithun, the president of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB).

“The remark made by the BCB director has hurt the cricket fraternity greatly and it’s not acceptable,” Mithun declared on Wednesday evening. “We demand his resignation. If he doesn’t resign before tomorrow’s match, we will announce a boycott of all cricket, starting from the BPL matches tomorrow (Thursday).”

The players enforced the boycott with the first-division matches in the Dhaka Cricket League as four games did not start on Thursday morning. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express is also yet to start. It was to begin at 1 PM IST on Thursday.
As a result, BCB was forced to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Nazmul Islam, who needs to respond to the show-cause notice within 48 hours.
“The board has already initiated formal disciplinary proceedings against the board member concerned,” the BCB statement mentioned. “A show cause letter has been issued, and the individual has been instructed to submit a written response within 48 hours. The matter will be dealt with through due process and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the proceedings.”
ESPN reports that BCB offered Nazmul Islam stepping down from the finance committee, but it was not accepted by the players’ association, who are seeking his resignation from the board.
