Key reason revealed behind breakdown of relations between Chelsea and Enzo Maresca – Firstpost

Chelsea were not glad with their former manager Enzo Maresca’s handling of players returning from injuries and this was among the key reasons behind his ouster from Stamford Bridge.

Maresca led Chelsea to the glories of FIFA Club World Cup last season and also helped the mannschaft to conquest the UEFA Conference League, but those trophies could not save him from losing his job as he fell out with the hierarchy at the club over some key differences. One of these was how Maresca was using his players.

Chelsea put Medical Head on bench with Maresca

A report in the Daily Mail reveals that the club had inserted their medical head Bryce Cavanagh into the technical area as Maresca would not substitute players returning from injury.

The report says that following re-injuries to two players, the higher management at the club decided to put Cavanagh on bench to assist Maresca.

Cavanagh was there to remind Maresca about the players’ workload and when to take them off the field. The medical head reportedly came on the bench soon after Maresca’s outburst in December where he alleged that he had suffered “the worst 48 hours of career at Stamford Bridge.”

However, things did not go as plan and then the management reportedly wrote a letter to Maresca about his actions regarding the playing time of certain players.

The report also states that Maresca soon revealed to the hierarchy at Chelsea that he had been contacted by representatives from Manchester City and Juventus. He was contacted by Manchester City in October then in December by Juventus.

The relationship kept going south and finally on the New Year's Day, Maresca left the club just 18 months after taking in charge.

Chelsea have roped in Liam Rosenior from sister club Strasbourg and they have given him a contract till 2032. Rosenior started with a 5-1 FA Cup victory at Charlton. However, bigger challenges await as Chelsea remain on the eighth spot in the Premier League with a string of poor results.
