'Mayasabha' teaser: 'Tumbbad' director Anil Barve back with second film – Firstpost

The teaser for the upcoming Hindi feature film Mayasabha – The Hall of Illusion has been officially unveiled, marking a significant milestone ahead of its nationwide theatrical release on January 30, 2026. The film marks the second directorial venture of visionary filmmaker Rahi Anil Barve, following the cult success of Tumbbad. Renowned for his distinctive narrative style, immersive world-building, and layered storytelling, Rahi once again presented a thought-provoking cinematic experience that explores human behaviour, power structures, and the fragile line between reality and illusion.

Mayasabha features a compelling ensemble cast led by the versatile Jaaved Jaaferi, alongside Mohammad Samad, Veena Jamkar, and Deepak Damle. The film promises an intense and introspective journey, blending emotional depth with philosophical undertones while staying true to the director’s cinematic vision.

Sharing his thoughts, director Rahi Anil Barve said, “The response we’ve received so far especially after the posters were unveiled has been truly overwhelming and incredibly motivating. It has given us immense confidence as we move closer to sharing the film with audiences. Mayasabha is a deeply personal and layered journey for me, and I’m excited for viewers to experience its world through the teaser and connect with its emotions, ideas, and underlying truths.”

Adding to the growing anticipation, Mayasabha recently opened the Annabhau Sathe Film Festival in Pune, where it received enthusiastic reactions and strong word of mouth. The film also garnered attention during the closing segment of the Jagran Film Festival 2025 in Mumbai, as well as at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards, further strengthening expectations ahead of its theatrical release. In addition, the film will be showcased under the Indian Cinema section at the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) 2026, organised by the Government of Maharashtra, with a scheduled screening on 17th January at 7:00 PM.
