Six injured as slight plane crash-lands in Odisha's Rourkela; probe ordered – Firstpost

A nine-seater plane with six passengers on board crashed on Saturday near the Jagada block, close to Rourkela airstrip in Odisha. Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft went down while attempting to take off for Bhubaneswar.

The flight, operated by IndiaOne Air from Rourkela, reportedly encountered difficulties shortly after lifting off and came down near the airstrip. The Charlie-208 aircraft had two pilots on board at the time. While no fatalities have been reported, both passengers and crew sustained injuries.

At least six people suffered minor injuries when a slight aircraft of a private airline in which they were flying made a crash landing near Rourkela on Saturday, Odisha’s Commerce and Transport minister BB Jena reported.

The incident took place near Rourkela, he mentioned.

“One A-1 nine-seater private flight carrying six passengers from Rourkela to Bhubaneswar has met with an accident. The passengers have sustained minor injuries and are stable. It took place at Jalda, 10 kilometres from Rourkela. By the grace of God, this is not a major accident,” Jena told reporters.

Director of Biju Patnaik International Airport, Prasanna Pradhan stated, “The flight was on its way from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela. It made a crash landing 10 km before Rourkela. There were 4 passengers and 2 crew members. All are safe. The flight is IndiaOne Air. The number of the light is C-208."

The minister said the state government has apprised the Director General of Civil Aviation of the situation. “Our director will also soon visit the accident site,” he reported.

Emergency teams quickly reached the site following reports of the crash landing and transported the injured to a hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe. Firefighters from Rourkela and Panposh Fire Stations were also deployed to support the rescue operations.
