Trump Pushes Canada Close To China As US' Tariffs Force Major Trade Rethink | Spotlight

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is all set to pay an official visit to China from January 14 to 17 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson announced on Monday. This will mark the first visit in nearly a decade of any Canadian PM visiting Beijing. The trip will aim to bid to rebuild the country’s fractured relations with the world’s second-largest economy and reduce Canada’s dependence on the United States. Carney's move is the part of a major rethink as ties sour with America, the world’s No. 1 economy and long the largest trading partner for Canada by far.
