The blast occurred at around 3 pm on Sunday at a Baogang United Steel plant. Tremors were felt in nearby areas. A massive cloud of white smoke rose into the sky following the explosion.

Cause linked to storage tank

City officials reported a pressurised storage tank exploded inside the factory. The tank was designed to hold steam and high-temperature water.

Baogang United Steel is a major state-owned company.

Authorities have formed a special investigation group to determine the cause of the explosion and establish responsibility. Officials noted there would be zero tolerance for negligence, adding that legal action has already been taken against company personnel linked to the incident.
