'Unafraid to use military force on Iran': White House says Trump has 'many options on table' as protests spread – Firstpost

The White House has remarked that US President Donald Trump is “unafraid to use military force” against Iran, as widespread protests have killed over 500 people in the country.

Speaking to Fox News, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt mentioned that while diplomacy remained Trump’s “first option”, he was “unafraid to use the lethal force and might of the United States military if and when he deems that necessary."

“Airstrikes would be one of the many, many options that are on the table for the commander-in-chief. He’s made it quite clear he certainly doesn’t want to see people being killed in the streets of Tehran, and unfortunately, that’s something we’re seeing right now,” Leavitt stated.

The press secretary also revealed that while Iran’s public message has been reflecting opposition to Trump’s threats, Tehran’s private messages to Trump have a tone of conciliation.

Trump imposes sanctions on Iran’s trading partners

Trump has announced that his administration would impose a 25 per cent tariff on countries trading with Iran, as he backs protestors amid widespread demonstrations across the country.

“Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America. This Order is final and conclusive,” Trump declared on TruthSocial.

Currently, Iran’s largest trading partners are China, followed by Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. The White House, however, has not shared any details about the recent tariffs or revealed which countries would be hit the most.

Iran warns US

Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has issued a strong warning to the US that its military bases, ships, and personnel across the country would be targeted if he intervenes in Iranian affairs.

“Come and see what will happen to American ships and military bases in the region. Come and burn in the fire of the Iranian nation so severely that it becomes a lasting lesson in history for all oppressive US rulers. Come and find out what will happen to you and to the region,” Qalibaf warned.
