Updated: Sat, Nov 01, 2025 01:07 (IST) In Varanasi, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan inaugurated the new Dharamshala building of the Sri Kashi Natkottai Institution built at a cost of Rs 60 crore in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He described the transformation of Kashi as the result of the efforts of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi. The Vice President said that this Dharamshala symbolizes the cultural bond between North and South India, especially Tamil and Kashi, and appreciated the service spirit of the Natakottai group. He said when I came to Kashi 25 years ago, I was a non-vegetarian. After bathing in Ganga, there was such a change in my life that I adopted vegetarianism. Today, Kashi has completely changed – Vice President Radhakrishnan said that there is a world of difference between the Kashi of 25 years ago and the Kashi of today. This change was possible only because of two Karmayogis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He said where the Natkottai group is active, service, religion and progress go together. This building is a symbol of that feeling. He said that this Dharamshala is not just a building but a new chapter in the cultural bond of North and South India. He said that this building will further strengthen the age-long relationship between Tamil and Kashi. Tamil pundits, poets and devotees kept coming to Kashi in curiosity for knowledge. Kanwar Guru, great poet Subramanya Bharati settled here. Kasi Tamil Sangamam further strengthened it. He spoke about the sanctity of Kashi and said that 72 thousand temples, Shiva in every particle, the mantra Om Namah Shivay resonating in the sky is the identity of Kashi. Natkottai Group Lives for the Sake of Others – Vice President The Vice President said that this institution was established in 1863 for the convenience of the devotees coming to Kashi from Tamil Nadu and the same spirit lives on even today. The ‘Shambho’ system did not stop even during the curfew of 1942. These are people who give more, not less. The Natkottai group lives for the stranger. Wherever it goes, be it Singapore, Burma or Kashi, it leaves its mark. Referring to events like the return of the idol of Annapurna Devi and Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, he said that Kashi was undergoing a spiritual renaissance under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi. Today, echoes of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ and ‘Ganga Maiya ki Jai’ are heard everywhere. He said that the society which lives not only for itself but also for others follows true religion. He said that 76 solar lamps (1.5 crore) in Dharamshala, a symbol of green energy, will save Rs 25 lakh annually.
