Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar city recorded its coldest night so far this season on Wednesday, where the temperature touched minus 3.9 degrees Celsius. It is believed that the temperature will drop further in the coming days. According to officials of the meteorological department, the severity of cold will further increase in the coming days. There will be freezing cold until December 10, but with it the weather will remain cold and dry. During this period, the minimum temperature may drop below minus 3.9 degrees. A temperature of minus 3.9 degrees Celsius was recorded on Wednesday, which was the coldest night so far this season. At the same time, the temperature in Gulmarg and Pahalgam was recorded at minus 4.6 degrees. Talking about the temperature of other cities of Jammu and Kashmir, the temperature of Jammu city was recorded at 8.8 degrees Celsius, Banihal at 0.7 degrees Celsius, Katra at 8.5 degrees Celsius, Batot at 4.6 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah at 0.5 degrees Celsius. People turn to bonfires to escape the harsh winter. The administration also arranges bonfires for tourists at various places. Visibility is low in many areas due to smog and the sun is not visible in many areas. Due to increasing cold and snowfall, it becomes difficult for children to go to school in the morning. In view of the cold, the authorities have decided that winter vacations for children up to class 8 will begin from December 1, while winter vacations for children from classes 9 to 12 will begin from December 11. Let us tell you that every year in the months of December and January, 40 days are spent in great difficulty for the local people because due to cold water also freezes in the pipes. To avoid these problems, people should stock food items, medicine, grain and other essential items in advance. These 40 days are called ‘Chillai Kalan’.
