Guwahati, November 26 (IANS). The Indian team lost the series of 2 tests against South Africa by 0-2. Team India, who lost by 30 runs in the first Test played in Kolkata, had to face defeat by a record margin of 408 runs in the second Test played in Guwahati. This is India’s biggest defeat in Test cricket. The biggest threat to India in this Test series was South Africa’s 36-year-old spinner Simon Harmer. Simon Harmer became the biggest reason for India’s defeat. Harmer, who took 6 wickets in the second innings of the second Test played in Guwahati, played a vital role in the team’s historic victory by taking 9 wickets in the match. Harmer also took 8 wickets in the Kolkata Test. This right-arm off-spinner, who took a total of 17 wickets, was named the best player of the series. After winning the man of the match award, Harmer said: “I said in the last Test, it’s been a long journey. 10 years on, it’s a completely different feeling. I’ll take a lot of good memories away from here. It was a great effort to beat a very good Indian team. It felt good to take five wickets in India, it felt good to contribute to the win.” Harmer’s mammoth success is proof that the Indian team’s skill in spin bowling has steadily declined. Harmer has also played Tests in India in the past and has taken 27 wickets in the total of 4 Test matches played so far. By winning the Guwahati Test, South Africa made a 0-2 clean sweep in the series and won the Test series after 25 years on Indian soil. The last time South Africa won a Test series in India was in 1999–2000 under the captaincy of Hansie Cronje. Speaking of Guwahati Test, South Africa won the toss and batted first, scoring 489 runs. The Indian team were all out for 201 runs in the first innings and trailed by 288 runs. South Africa declared the second innings at 260 runs for 5 wickets and based on the lead of 288 runs in the first innings, India were given a target of 549 runs. The Indian team was bowled out for 140 and lost by a margin of 408 runs.
