These accused used to extort money from the policemen by threatening them. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested both of them and further investigation is on. A gang that extorted money from policemen by posing as fake vigilance officers has been arrested. While investigating the case of attempt to extort money from a policeman in Gurugram’s Sector-50 police station area last month, the Sector-40 Crime Branch team arrested both the accused on Tuesday evening. The accused have been identified as Deepak of Ranila village in Charkhi Dadri and Nitin Kumar, a resident of Kathmandu, Nepal. Police spokesperson said the policeman posted as zonal officer at Mehfil Garden’s red light had registered a case at Sector-50 police station on October 16. In this he said that on the evening of October 15, when he was on duty, a gray colored Beleno car stopped. Two persons in the car introduced themselves as vigilance officers and took them to the police booth. Both men in the booth said there were complaints against them. After this both left after threatening to call him on WhatsApp at 7.30 and send Rs 50 thousand. While leaving, both of them also asked for five thousand rupees. However, the policeman refused to give the money. When the money was not paid, both accused sent him a threatening video at night. After registering the case, the Sector-40 crime branch team investigated the case and arrested Nitin and Deepak on Tuesday evening. During interrogation, it was revealed that Nitin is originally from Nangloi, Delhi and has been living in Kathmandu for many years. Deepak lived in Sector 10 of Gurugram. Deepak went to Nepal about two years ago. Where they met. Deepak works in real estate business and Nitin sometimes came to India to commit crime. Both of them drove in Deepak’s car and targeted a policeman and while introducing themselves as Vigilance officers, they extorted money from him by threatening him by saying that there is a case against him. Accused Nitin just came to India in October 2025, after that they together tried to extort money from the policeman in this case. So both the accused gave information about seven incidents in NCR including Delhi. Investigation revealed that many cases were registered against them in Sector 50 Police Station of Delhi’s Tilak Marg, Lajpat Nagar, Noida, Gurugram. The Baleno car used in the crime was recovered from both the accused. They will be taken into custody and questioned about the incidents and other gang members.
