Jakarta – The 10th and 12th vice president of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK), said that he once thought he would be invited to become a vice presidential candidate with Megawati Soekarnoputri. He told about the moment in that time. JK conveyed this while attending the 2025 Press Council Awards at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (10/12/2025). JK told that one day he was invited by Megawati to a special lunch. PAGE TO CONTINUE CONTENT He admitted that he had expressed his willingness to be offered the position of vice president. During one hour of eating together, however, there was apparently no discussion about this. “I was waiting for those words. The answer was ready, willing. But because there were no questions for an hour, I had to hold back the word ‘willing,'” JK said, greeted by laughter from the audience. After lunch, JK immediately received a call from the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who asked him to be prepared to become a vice presidential candidate. JK admitted that he accepted the offer. Not long after, several figures came to ask JK to cancel his engagement. But he refused. He emphasized that he even asked that the agreement with SBY be made in writing. “Wow, I made a promise (to SBY).
