The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam CID on Friday filed a charge sheet in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati in the case of singer Zubeen Garg’s death. Zubeen Garg, a resident of Assam, died in Singapore on September 19 and is alleged to have been murdered. Almost three months after the incident, Assam CID deposited three cases full of documents in the court. A case was registered in the Assam CID under FIR number 18/2025 under sections 61 (criminal conspiracy), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, and later the charge of murder was added under section 103 of the IPC. A lot of investigation has been done in this case, which includes the SIT team’s visit to Singapore and questioning of around 300 witnesses. The SIT is going to present a detailed charge sheet, after having already examined 3,500 pages of testimony from witnesses. Seven people, including Singapore organizer Shyamkanu Mahant, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, co-singer Amritprabha Mahant, Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, her cousin (who accompanied her on tour), suspended police officer Sandipan Garg, and Zubeen’s personal security office in Bawar Boryaa and Paresh, N. judicial custody for months. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier claimed in the recent winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly that it was a murder and that the Assam SIT would prepare a strong report. Many allegations have been made about Zubeen’s untimely death. The SIT received the official charge sheet on Friday morning and was then taken to the CJM court under tight security. To show the sensitivity and importance of the matter, heavy security forces were deployed on the route. The sudden death of the singer has increased the curiosity among people to know the reason. With the filing of the charge sheet, it is expected that more clear information will be available about the reasons behind the mysterious death of Zubeen Garg. Officials believe this document will shed light on important aspects of the investigation that has been ongoing for months. The SIT team has reached the CJM court to formally file the charge sheet, which is an important step in the ongoing investigation.
