Bhubaneswar, November 29 (IANS). Odisha government is preparing to bring a new law for cow protection. Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday said the Odisha government will not compromise on the safety and protection of cows. He said that all illegal slaughterhouses and unauthorized transport of animals will be completely stopped in the state. The government is actively considering bringing in a separate cow protection law and a clear framework is likely to come out before the upcoming assembly session. Minister Harichandan, after talking to a delegation on a hunger strike demanding cow protection, said that the sentiments of Indians towards cows will always be respected. He said that the dual car government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and strong leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is working seriously to ensure comprehensive defense in Odisha. He said that there will be another round of talks between the Chief Minister and the representatives and the government is committed to make the best law to ensure cow protection in the state. After the minister’s assurance, the delegation ended its five-day hunger strike. Government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Dharamshala MLA Himanshu Shekhar Sahu, Bhadrak MLA Sitanshu Shekhar Mahapatra, Mahakalpara MLA Durga Prasanna Nayak and other representatives were present in the meeting. –IANS MS/VC Share this story Tags
