He said that this collaborative approach ensures that all relevant parties are actively involved, from the Tanjung Benoa District Government, BMKG, the tourism private sector, academics and all elements of society. “Together with the Sub-District Government, BMKG, private parties in the tourism sector, academics and all elements of society, we continuously conduct training, simulations and education on disaster mitigation,” said Darma. Darma said that this intensive cooperation produced results in 2022. Tanjung Benoa Village was designated as the first village in Indonesia to achieve “Tsunami Ready Community” from UNESCO. “It was this collective hard work that produced brilliant results when Tanjung Benoa Village was named the first village in Indonesia to receive ‘Tsunami Ready Community’ recognition from UNESCO in 2022,” he explained. Darma emphasized that international recognition must be followed up with sustainable mitigation. The reason for this is that disaster preparedness has proven to have a positive impact on the tourism sector. He said that the success of Tanjung Benoa has become a model that has proven to be successful and will soon be replicated in other areas in Badung Regency. “The participation of FPRB Tanjung Benoa in this global forum proves that local communities with the right government support are capable of becoming role models in disaster resilience.
