Delhi: Every family living in a slum will get a permanent home, big announcement by CM Rekha Gupta.

New Delhi, November 26 (IANS). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday made a major announcement regarding the redevelopment of slums in the national capital Delhi. He said that the decades old slums in Delhi will now see a new direction of development and the government will provide permanent houses to every family living in the slum. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that slums have been present in different parts of Delhi for the past few decades. Many settlements are more than 30 to 40 years old. There are slums in many places in Delhi. Some are 30 years old and some are 40 years or older. Many people came from villages to Delhi in search of work and settled here. Today, the second generation has been born in their homes, who have become full citizens of Delhi. The Chief Minister said that these settlements are being established under different names from time to time. Some were called Sanjay Colony and some as Indira Colony. The work of naming the slums continued, but the work of their development was not done. These people have been living for years in the hope of better facilities and permanent houses.” Rekha Gupta reiterated the government’s intention and said that permanent houses would be provided in every slum of Delhi in a phased manner in the coming time. She said, “Every slum family of Delhi will get a permanent house. This is my promise as the Chief Minister of Delhi. To provide a strong roof over the heads of the poor is our priority.” He attacked the previous governments and said that the Congress government had also promised to provide houses to the slum dwellers but it did not fulfill its promises. Rekha Gupta said, “The Congress made the promise. He also built houses, but did not give them to even a single slum dweller. Those houses have gradually become dilapidated but they have not been handed over to the needy poor.” The Chief Minister said that the situation will now change and his government is fast implementing policies to provide a dignified life to the people living in slums. He said that survey work has started in many areas and redevelopment plans will be implemented comprehensively in the coming months.
