The rice is given hot, because it was cooked just before dinner time. Volunteers distribute these packets of rice before lunch or dinner,” said Alex. PDIP West Sumatra also provided assistance with 1 digging unit working to remove mud deposits. The areas cleared of mud deposits were Cubadak Aia in Gunung Pangilun Village, North Padang District, the SMAN 12 Padang Neighborhood in Gurun Laweh Village and residential areas in Tabiang Banda Gadang Sub-District, Nanggalo District. Coordinator of the West Sumatra PDIP disaster management team and Alex’s expert, Gery Fernando, said the water in the river is still cloudy, making it difficult for residents to use it. According to him, residents still rely on rainwater and assistance from various parties. “Actually, there is quite a lot of water available in the river. However, the condition is very cloudy because it is mixed with soil washed away from the upstream of the river. To meet their needs, the majority of residents use collected rainwater in addition to donations from various institutions,” said the West Sumatra PDI Perjuangan disaster management team, Gery Fernando. The clean water crisis also occurred in District IV Nagari Bayang Utara, Pesisir Selatan Regency. Alex sent 25 staff consisting of 2 doctors, 4 nurses and 2 administrators as well as 17 non-medical people. (fca/fca)
