Jakarta – PKB Deputy General Chairman (Waketum) Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal visited disaster-stricken areas in Pidie Jaya, Aceh. Cucun pushed for the acceleration of river normalization and the construction of temporary shelters (huntara) for disaster victims in Sumatra. “We came today to bring help, but more than that we want to bring the message that the people of Pidie Jaya are not alone,” Cucun said when he visited Pidie Jaya on Wednesday (10/12/2025). “Mutual cooperation and community resilience are our most important assets to rise together, I salute and be proud, this is the hallmark of our nation,” he continued. Scroll TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Vice-Chairman of the DPR RI also listened to the aspirations of the local government and the community. They asked for the normalization of the 970 meter long river which is currently covered under pieces of wood and mud because there are fears that further flooding will occur when the rains fall again. Cucun said that the Pidie Jaya Regency government has also requested that shelters be built immediately. He said that nearly 5,000 houses were severely damaged or even lost. Cucun stressed that he will immediately coordinate with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to use ready-to-use funds (ADP) to speed up the construction of temporary shelters and the basic infrastructure rehabilitation process. “Public facilities such as roads, schools and places of worship must be repaired as soon as possible so that social, economic and educational activities in the community can return to normal,” Cucun concluded. Cucun’s arrival also involved the handing over of aid to the people of Pidie Jaya. The aid consisted of three trucks with clothes, family kits, ready-to-eat food, mineral water and other emergency supplies. The aid was symbolically handed over to the Pidie Jaya Regency Government and some of it was distributed directly to hundreds of residents in Gampong Blangcut, Meurah Dua District. (fca/fca)
