Patna, November 30 (IANS). Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU) on Sunday criticized Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani’s statement on ‘Jihad’. BJP spokesperson Guru Prakash reminded Mahmood Madani of the law and constitution of the country. BJP national spokesperson Guru Prakash told IANS: “There is democracy and judiciary in the country. He (Mahmood Madani) should be told that he is above the Constitution and the law.” He clearly replied that the country has a constitution prepared by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, there is a preamble and thought there. So don’t even think that you are taking the law into your own hands. Don’t think about it at all. JDU MLC Ghulam Gaus termed Maulana Mahmood Madani’s statement as ‘absurd’. He said that he (Madani) should not make irresponsible statements. ‘Unity in diversity’ is the specialty of our country. He also rejected the statement of Mahmood Madani, in which Maulana said that a section is being given exemption in the name of ‘homecoming’. Ghulam Gaush said: “If a person wants to follow any religion willingly, then who can stop him? Jihad means gaining control over your wrong desire towards someone or your own. But they should not make irresponsible statements.” During this, JDU MLC also reacted to Tejashwi Yadav who was elected Leader of the Opposition. He said: “The opposition has no existence anymore. The appointment happened because of the system of democracy. The task of the opposition is not only to criticize the government, but also to advise the government and tell about the mistakes.” He attacked Ghulam Ghaus and said it is not his job to simply protest in the name of the opposition because in a democratic system the opposition is also part of the government. –IANS DCH/ Share this story Tags
