During the 1280th meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of Delhi University (DU), many important proposals related to the development, academic expansion and infrastructure of the university were approved on Friday. The Vice Chancellor announced that the 102nd Convocation of Delhi University will be held on February 28, 2026, in which Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will be the Chief Guest. In the meeting, the revised budget estimate for the financial year 2025-2026 was reduced from ₹1,664.74 crore to ₹1,312.33 crore. The budget estimate of ₹1,651.42 crore for the financial year 2026-2027 was approved. Projects worth ₹2,000 crore in final stage – University Chief Engineer Ashok Saini presented a progress report on the ongoing construction and renovation projects in the university. The Vice Chancellor said most of the projects worth around ₹ 2,000 crore are in their final stage and will be completed soon. Center for Odia Studies set up in the Faculty of Arts The CU has also approved the recommendations of a Center for Odia Studies in the Faculty of Arts. The Vice Chancellor said that this center will expand the scope of academic interaction on Odia language, literature, culture, civilization and traditions. A two-year MA in Odia program will be started in the semester system. PhD, Post Doctoral Research, Certificate, Diploma and General Elective courses will also be offered to ensure that the Odia knowledge tradition reaches the new generation on a large scale. DU Literature Festival will be held on 12-14 February. Vice Chancellor said that Delhi University will organize a Literature Festival from February 12-14, 2026 with an aim to make it the biggest literary event in the country. The EC also approved the Building Committee’s proposal to build a broadcasting studio near the Vice Regal Lodge building. Its cost will be around Rs 2.32 crore. Hostel to be built on vacant land in Dhaka complex – EC has also approved the proposal to use 3.7 acres of vacant land in Delhi University’s Dhaka complex to build a hostel, in which security and living facilities will be taken care of. This land was earlier given to Delhi School of Social Work and Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute but due to lack of construction the university took it.
