Jagran Correspondent, Fazilka. Ahead of the District Council and Block Committee elections, the police administration in Fazilka has gone into full alert mode. Led by SSP Gurmeet Singh, the police took out flag march in various villages and made it clear that the elections in the district will be held in a peaceful manner. The police have completed all preparations and special vigilance is being maintained at sensitive polling stations. Out of 465 polling booths in the district, around 150 booths have been marked as sensitive, where additional police forces are deployed. The aim of the administration is to let people reach the polling stations without any fear. SSP Gurmeet Singh said that the police is fully prepared to prevent any kind of disturbance during the election days. During the flag march in each village, people are assured that voting will take place in a completely safe environment and no person will have to vote under fear or pressure. Additional forces, patrolling teams and vigilance have been increased at sensitive stalls. The police administration has deployed a total of 1400 police personnel on duty, which include polling parties, patrol teams, QRT, blockade teams and reserve forces. The command of all these will be in the hands of SSP Fazilka along with 10 senior officers of the district, who themselves will monitor the system from time to time. He said that one police party has been deployed behind each of the 20 polling stations in the district, so that immediate response can be given in case of any untoward situation. Apart from this, strict blockade is being done on the interstate borders. The police of neighboring states are imposing blockade in their respective areas on the Punjab-Haryana border, so that suspicious activities, illegal liquor and movement of outside elements can be stopped. He said that maintaining law and order during elections is the top priority. The police administration has also appealed to the people by going to the villages to vote without any pressure, fear or greed and if anyone tries to influence them, immediately inform the police.
