Ranchi, November 30 (IANS). Virat Kohli scored a superb century in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday. It was the 52nd century of Kohli’s ODI career. With this century, Kohli became the player to score most centuries in any format. Earlier this record was in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar scored 51 hundreds in Tests. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar praised Virat Kohli and said he is a great player in the ODI format. Sunil Gavaskar said on GeoHotstar: “People who have played with and against Virat Kohli all agree that he is the greatest ODI player. Ricky Ponting called him the greatest too. It is very difficult to get praise from Australians. If you get past Sachin, you know where this guy stands.” Virat Kohli was a flop in the first 2 matches of the 3 ODI series against Australia. He was out for nil in both the games. This happened for the first time in his career. After two consecutive failures, speculations started about Virat’s career. Some cricket experts started advising him to bid farewell to the ODI format as well. In the third ODI against Australia, Kohli silenced the critics by scoring a half-century. In Ranchi ODI, Virat played an innings of 135 runs in 120 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 11 fours. This innings made it almost clear that Virat will bid a complete farewell to international cricket only after playing the next one-day tournament. Let us tell you that Kohli has already said goodbye to T20 and Test. –IANS PAK Share this story Tags
