Kota Airport Master Plan passed by NBWL, three major works will start soon in Tiger Reserve Buffer Zone

An important news has come out about the long awaited Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport Project in the Hadoti area of Rajasthan. Three special proposals related to this long pending project were finally approved in the meeting of the National Council for Wildlife (NBWL). This decision will not only speed up the work to build the airport but will also ensure that the development work does not violate the Environmental Protection Standards (EPS). The initiative of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla proved to be very important in this whole development. The result of his efforts was that the project got permission to use limited forest land in the buffer zone of Ramgarh Visdhari Tiger Reserve, which was necessary for the technical and infrastructure work of the airport. Ramgarh Visdhari Tiger Reserve The proposed site for the Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport is close to the buffer zone of the Ramgarh Visdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTTR). It is necessary to obtain approval from NBWL for construction work in the Game Reserve. This was a major hurdle for the project as forest land was required for important works such as transmission line shifting and drainage construction. The approvals given in the recent council meeting clearly show that a balance has been struck between development and environmental protection. Works such as transmission line shifting by Rajasthan State Power Transmission Corporation (RVPNL) will now be able to proceed along with the main airport construction work. Relocation of transmission lines For safe and smooth operation of the greenfield airport, relocation of the existing high-voltage transmission lines was necessary. NBWL has approved two important proposals in this regard: First, the use of 9,863 hectares of forest land. Shifting of existing 220 kV double track Shaktipura-Mandalgarh (PGCIL Bhilwara) transmission line approved. This line passed through the airport premises, which posed a security risk. Second, use of 4.4206 hectares of forest land. Apart from this, shifting of 400 kV PGCIL-Anta transmission line has also been approved. Both these works will be done by Rajasthan State Power Transmission Corporation (RVPNL). The relocation of these lines will ensure the safety of airport airspace, which is in line with international standards for safe aircraft operation. Stormwater drainage system The construction of a proposed stormwater drainage system in the outer boundary area of the airport has also been approved by NBWL. 0.85 hectares of forest land will be used to build this system. This drainage system will be created by Kota Development Authority (KDA). Its main objective is to ensure safe and effective drainage of stormwater in and around the airport campus. Flooding can be a major problem in a large infrastructure facility such as an airport, so it is important to have a strong drainage system for operational safety. This will promote the development of Kota. This approval of the Greenfield Airport Project is an important economic and connectivity milestone for Kota and the entire Hadoti region. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has given priority to this project and is constantly monitoring its progress at the central and state levels. With the approval of all three proposals, all the technical and infrastructure works related to the airport will now progress rapidly. This will not only strengthen Kota’s place on the national aviation map but will also open up new avenues of trade, tourism and investment. Share this story Tags
