Major decision of Election Commission: SIR deadline extended in 6 states including UP, know what is the new deadline

The Election Commission has extended the deadline for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls that is underway in six states, including Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, the states where the Special Intensive Review (SIR) deadline has been extended include Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. According to the Election Commission, based on the requests received from the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of these six States/Union Territories, the schedule of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll in these six States/Union Territories has been changed. The eligible date for this revision is January 1, 2026. The new date for the draft list release in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat is December 19, which was earlier December 14. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the date of release of draft list has been extended in December 318, December 31, in Kerala. Commission has already given reprieve for SIR. Following a request from the state for more time, the deadline has now been extended from December 11 to December 18. At an all-party meeting in Kerala, the Congress, TMC, CPI(M) and SP alleged that the Commission had ignored the ground realities and hastily fixed the review timeline without any good reason.
